We moved in 2 weeks ago! Still loads to do but we are getting through it slowly. New ‘antique heart pine’ floor almost complete. We decided on two board widths 170mm & 75mm and it is a success so far. We were short one length of the 170mm board so I had to drive to Clonmel this morning and load up 4 x 2.4m lengths. It is different to the existing yellow pine floor (see header photo above) but they will sit well together after the new floor is sanded and varnished. We are using a water based satin varnish which is hard wearing, fast drying and not as toxic as other finishes. Ground floor skirting and decoration to follow.

Apologies -photos were taken late last night and lighting is not sorted yet but you should get an idea of progress anyway….

And yes that is ply-wood sheeting on the solid beach worktop in the kitchen (for protection until we decide on a sealer).

All appliances are connected and ready to use, charcoal black stone counter top around sink is in place, we have running water in all taps and we have finished sanding the existing timber floors and we are half way through varnishing with a water base varnish. The final push is on over the next few days.

I will put up more photos next week.

Yes we are still alive and getting closer to move in. The main electrical appliances are on site, kitchen fitted (waiting on piece of Dupont Zodiac stone for around the sink) and tiling almost complete. Gas is connected and heating is on since this afternoon. Sockets are working -some snags down the line. Lighting points still need activation -some points missing in ceiling voids -electrician to sort in coming days.

We’ve been sanding and cleaning on and off over the last few weeks but a serious push on now to get in over the next 10 days. The new timber floor for the hall and dining room will be delivered next week (we needed heating running before attempting delivery on this and boards will need to sit for at least a week in the house before fitting). Hope, sweat, yawns and tears —-the end is near…

The excitement is starting to creep in again now for the first time since the purchase…..

Back door in on Friday so now Builder can finally finish plastering. Electrician and Plumber almost done. Gas connection later in the week (delay due to road opening licence). Hope to go flooring and sanding with ‘Rojo’ tomorrow and Wednesday.

Here’s some of the photos of different items and materials we’ve been looking at over the past 6 months:

18 August 2012

News just in: Back door will be replaced by joinery company in the coming week! It is probably easier for them to manufacture a new door instead of altering the one they fit already. Hopefully this one will be correct and we will be able to get the builder back in to finish the last small piece of plastering around the door. All the windows and doors are hardwood with a pre-finish RAL white (except the front door which needs a finish coat).

We have found a second hand window for the WC under the stairs. We got it here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ine-Anish/146162695410826 a few weeks ago and the joiner who made the front door is making a frame for it.

I will be taking a day off during the week to do an ‘industrial style deep clean’ -that’s what I am calling it anyway (in other words I am renting a vacuum cleaner for a day). Hopefully we can get sanding existing timber floors and start the internal painting after that.

Electrician, plumber and tiler due in Monday-Wednesday.

We have to sort out gas connection soon as the house really needs a bit of heat -especially with the damp summer we’ve had. We have resisted using a dehumidifier (building wasn’t sealed anyway) but we may consider it in the next few weeks if the drying situation doesn’t improve…….

16 August 2012

Good news -the back door was fitted by joiners yesterday but bad news is that there is a problem with dimensions. We are not pleased (absolutely furious and frustrated in other words) as this was highlighted and they still went ahead with fit. The bottom of the door opens into the space where the solid timber floor on battens should be.

Delay city………
